To continue constructing a network of practices and encourage discussion, that essay closed with an invitation for views of what writing can contribute to further investigating the post-crisis present.

“I launched ARMED CELL in 2011 at the Durruti Free Skool, convened by Joshua Clover and Juliana Spahr in Berkeley. Our projects shared a desire for a social poetics, a poetics resonant with social struggles. The magazine’s first poem, David Lau’s “Communism Today,” takes as its context the California anti-austerity university struggles that began in 2009, the first significant resistance to the 2008 economic crisis in the United States, as Jasper Bernes has argued. Joshua, David, Jasper, and I were participants in those struggles; responding to the crisis was central to participants’ practical understanding, that the crisis crystallized the secular stagnation of systemic capital accumulation projecting an absent future of exacerbated dispossession, exploitation, and unemployment, and we extended our investigations through poetry. My editing has emphasized a multiplicity of writing attuned to senses since the crisis; I first named “post-crisis poetics” in my analysis of “Communism Today” and extended the term in my essay analyzing writing from every issue to that time. My essay closed with an invitation to readers for further views for a series that I’m editing in order to continue developing this historical perspective’s suggestiveness for writing.”Brian Anghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03733133032013585813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1162433411932571243.post-13054976991034796592016-10-30T10:03:00.000-07:002017-08-20T21:51:29.737-07:00ARMED CELL 11

“Post-crisis poetics: desire for a poetics adequate to the present, the world since the 2008 economic crisis.” Analyzing David Lau, Josef Kaplan, Brian Ang, Steven Zultanski, Maya Weeks, Wendy Trevino and Dereck Clemons, Jasper Bernes, Joshua Clover, Anne Lesley Selcer, and Rob Halpern, and with an invitation for further views. “Post-crisis poetics: construction of a network of practices adequate to writing the present, the post-crisis period in progress. Toward its construction, I’ve analyzed practices investigating multiple dimensions of the post-crisis world-system, suggesting lines for multiplying the communization of knowledge within the unfolding present. To continue construction and encourage discussion, readers are invited to give their views of what writing can contribute to further investigating the post-crisis present for a series that I’m editing to be published over the course of a month. Submit to armedcell@gmail.com by the end of July 2016 for consideration. Participation is limited to 15; proposals will be added in the order they are received.

“This seminar combines two critical poetics perspectives on the present: Brian Ang’s ‘Post-Crisis Poetics’ and Jeff Derksen’s ‘The Militant Word.’ ‘The Militant Word’ inquires into the plurality of militant poetries present and past, while ‘Post-Crisis Poetics’ concerns critical poetries since the 2008 economic crisis, with a perspective toward transformations over ‘the next 25 years’ and beyond. Discussion seeks further perspectives from participants in order to exchange awarenesses and multiply connections with their own practices.”Brian Anghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03733133032013585813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1162433411932571243.post-48272645082034621462015-10-14T23:30:00.000-07:002016-04-07T01:20:33.678-07:00ARMED CELL 9

“In a forthcoming essay, ‘Post-Crisis Poetics,’ I connect readings of poetries that I’ve published in my magazine ARMED CELL. I started my magazine in August 2011 to publish poetry and poetics open to values emerging from the global waves of struggles since the 2008 economic crisis. The magazine’s title was drawn from a desire for militant intransigence signified by that form of struggle, a value of the California anti-austerity university struggles that began in 2009, the first significant resistance to the crisis in the United States. The university struggles are the context for the magazine’s first poem, David Lau’s ‘Communism Today’: its first section ends ‘Occupy everything, including Humanities,’ an extension of the university struggles’ slogan that influenced the Occupy movement that began in September 2011 from a politicization of space and time toward a politicization of knowledge, an emblem for the magazine’s desire for an historicized critical poetics. My editing has aspired to assemble complexes for thinking about each issue’s moment’s unfolding multiple dimensions suggestive for further critical writing.”Brian Anghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03733133032013585813noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1162433411932571243.post-40861125843850582712014-07-04T02:00:00.000-07:002016-04-07T01:18:54.582-07:00ARMED CELL 7
